The Federal Trade Commission (“FTC” or “Commission”) and other consumer protection enforcement agencies are actively scrutinizing the for-profit education sector, including third-party marketing companies. This panel discussion, which features one of the FTC’s top enforcers and an industry attorney, will provide an update and strategies to help avoid enforcement actions.
Several U.S. Senators have called on the FTC to take action “concerning unscrupulous for-profit colleges that engage in deceptive and abusive recruitment practices, including their use of third-party, online-marketing companies, or “lead generators,” to mislead prospective students.” In response, the FTC has said:
I can assure you that the Commission and the Commission staff fully share your concerns about these practices, and agree that consumers should have truthful information about their post-secondary education choices, as well as clear and accurate information about how contact information that consumers share online will be used. The Commission is actively engaged in examining issues related to the for-profit education industry.

Emphasis will be on practical examples and there will be an opportunity for speaker Q & A.
